How to Participate at Expo 2020 Dubai - Join Team Zimbabwe - Small and Medium Enterprises

 

The following opportunities are available to various sectors in Zimbabwe and all the participating countries

1. Small and Medium Enterprises
Expo 2020 Dubai is an ideal business platform, giving priority to SMEs, as they are important in promoting economic growth and job creation. As of early May 2019, more than 37,400 suppliers from 151 countries were registered to perform business with Expo 2020 Dubai, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which still have priority in winning contracts.


In addition, 56% of all Expo 2020 Dubai contracts were awarded to small and medium-sized companies, with the size of SMEs benefiting from direct and indirect contracts and tenders, so far having reached AED 3.41 billion to support Expo 2020 Dubai's goal of promoting innovation and supporting small businesses.
What are the specific Programmes for SMEs?


i. Online Market Place – Procurement Portal https://omp.expo2020dubai.com/ 
An Expo 2020 Dubai tool for businesses to connect, collaborate and compete for business opportunities globally. The Online Marketplace is a powerful platform for finding the very best products and services on offer globally, including the freshest and most innovative ideas developed by SMEs worldwide.

ii. Expo Live Grants – 
This is open to sectors including Start-ups, Enterprises, SMEs, NGOs, and more. The Focus is to find, fund and show the impact of social innovation from around the world, giving a voice to grassroots solutions that improve lives. Expo Live sees innovation not as the process of generating ideas, but as the relentless commitment to solving problems that impact communities and the progress of humanity. Successful projects get granted up to USD 100,000 per organization to implement their creative solutions to social, environmental, or humanitarian challenges around the world.

iii. Retail Products –
Zimbabwe will have two spaces to sell goods at Expo 2020 Dubai. One will be just in front of Zimbabwe Pavilion and the other one at the World Market Centre. SMEs are required to submit Expressions of Interest for Supplying the Goods that will be sold in these stores. The Expression of Interest should include, Company Name, List of Products with Prices and Images, Place of Origin, and Ingredients if Applicable, and a brief description which relates the products to the country’s history and culture.

iv. Exhibition and Events – Deadline for Proposals to the Commissioner General is 30 November 2019
All SMEs through their respective organisations are encouraged to review Zimbabwe’s Exhibition plan and expo 2020 Programming tool. These essential pieces of Information will enable them to suggest and/or create Zimbabwean Events at Expo 2020 Dubai.

o Exhibition Space – Dubai Exhibition Centre
Exhibition Space is at 15 AED (USD$4.10) per SQM per day for build / tear down dates, and 30 AED (USD $8.20) per SQM per day for live days. It is not possible to request spaces for singular entities, and therefore, SMEs, will be required to form Groups, either through their Association or otherwise and take up at least 150m2 for periods of at least a week.

o Conferences – Dubai Exhibition Centre
Daily Delegate Rates start at 230AED (USD $63) per person, including coffee break, buffet lunch, and a complimentary ticket to Expo 2020 for each delegate.


o Events - Free Venues
Expo 2020 will provide fully fitted performance Venues for Participating countries to showcase themselves, through art dance, music, conference and more. There are two types of venues, 5 with pre-set technical equipment and 11 informal public spaces.

v. District 2020 Programme – SMEs Incubation Centre – 2 years after 2020
This is an opportunity for Zimbabwe start-ups/small businesses to have a soft landing into the Dubai Market, and be part of the District 2020 ecosystem after the Expo 2020 event. In order to join programme SMEs are supposed to work with their associations and submit a proposal/expression of interest to the Commissioner General. Benefits include:
• Free Business Setup and 2 years free Working Space;
• Subsidised Urban Living; and
• Free Access to Information, Tools and SMEs Support
